Grant Guidelines for 2008

Who Is Eligible

Qualifying organizations include nonprofits that are tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, schools, municipalities and other governmental entities that serve a charitable purpose in the greater Holland and Zeeland area.

What Are Our Focus and Priorities

The Foundation funds start up, program expansion, capital or special projects that focus on the arts and culture, education, environmental issues, health and human services, community and economic development, recreation and youth.  The foundation does not fund routine operating expenses or expenses for established programs.

Proposals that help organizations deliver services more effectively, enhance cooperation and collaboration, address emerging needs or try new approaches, positively impact a large number of people for the resources invested, or focus on prevention receive priority consideration.  The Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area generally awards grants one-time only for a specific project or program.

How to Apply

Beginning with the 2008 grants, the Foundation will review grant applications three times a year.  Grant proposals for distribution in 2008 are due on the following dates: September 6, 2007, January 11, 2008, and May 30, 2008.  Applicants are strongly encouraged to call the Foundation to discuss a proposal prior to submitting an application.

Grant applications are reviewed and evaluated by program staff and advisory committees of the Foundation.  Program staff and the advisory committees provide recommendations to the Board of Trustees for final grant determinations.  While the Foundation would like to be in a position to support all worthy grant requests it is unable to do so because of limited resources.  A denial of a grant application should not be viewed as a judgment on the merits of the proposal.
